The app
went quiet.

No more updates. The servers behind it went dark.

Your board
didn’t.

Your Drive still rolls. It just needed a new brain in your pocket.

OpenMellow

FreeIndependentBuilt by a rider

The free app for the Mellow Drive

Battery repair

Dead battery? Get it repaired.

A Mellow battery that won’t charge any more isn’t necessarily lost. Left empty for too long, its cells give up — but they can be replaced, and your original pack rides again.

Repair partner: AkkuPlus · Germany · 60+ Mellow batteries repaired since 2024

OpenMellow talks to your Mellow Drive over Bluetooth and turns what it says into an honest, smart dashboard. No account. No ads. Just your board, alive again.

The app

Everything your board knows. Finally readable.

01

Everything at a glance

Battery, kilometres left, your live speed, the remote’s battery and the mode you’re in. The battery % no longer jumps around: OpenMellow smooths what the board reports and keeps its own gauge between rides.

OpenMellow dashboard: 68 % battery, 9.2 km left, 27 km/h, Eco mode
02

Range that learns you

Kilometres left learn from your own rides, separately for each mode, with the hills you climb (measured by your iPhone’s barometer) and your weight. Switch from Eco to Pro and watch the range adjust instantly.

Pro mode selected: range drops to 6.1 km
03

Plan the ride

Type a destination on a tilted 3D map: distance, climbs and descents, and the battery you’ll have when you get there — and if you can make it back. Save your favourite places.

Route to the Cinquantenaire arches: 3.2 km, +68 m, about 23 % battery on arrival
04

Know your battery

Battery check shows your seven cells live, checks their balance after a full charge, measures how the pack behaves under load, its internal resistance and its self-discharge, and keeps a history. Rebuilt with bigger cells? Tell it the new capacity.

Battery check: seven cells at 3.92 volts, 12 mV gap, 5000 mAh pack
05

Charging, decoded

Plug in and the % turns green right away, with the real charging current and the time to full. When the board says 100 % but keeps pulsing, it shows “Topping up” — then a big FULL when you can unplug.

Charging finished: FULL, you can unplug
06

Your settings, safely

Ride modes, max-speed unlock on supported firmware, remote calibration and low-battery alerts. The commands that matter are refused while the board is moving, and the app reminds you to test with the wheels in the air.

Settings: top speed unlock, remote calibration, battery alert at 20 %, your weight

Apple Watch

Your board, on your wrist.

Battery, kilometres left and your live speed, right on your wrist — even with your phone locked in your pocket.

  • Live speed, km left and battery
  • Ride mode and the remote’s battery
  • Five strong buzzes at your alert level, and again at 10 %
  • Charging and FULL, right there too

Battery check

Know your battery. For real.

Your Drive’s battery has seven cells. OpenMellow watches each one, measures how the pack behaves and tells you plainly what to do — no lab needed.

7 cells, live

Gap now: 12 mV · every cell, every second.

Charging

Real current, honest time to full, and a clear FULL.

Balance at full charge

13mV

How evenly your cells finish a charge. Under 20 mV is good.

Internal resistance

Measured on hard starts and hills. It rises slowly as a pack ages.

Alerts that matter

At your threshold and at 10 %: a notification and five buzzes on your phone and your watch. Never while charging.

Rebuilt pack?

5000 mAh · 126 Wh

Tell the app your new capacity: the % and range cover your whole pack, even if the board’s electronics still count the old one.

Safe by design

It reads.
It doesn’t tamper.

It listens

OpenMellow reads what your Drive already shares over Bluetooth: battery, cells, speed, temperatures, mode.

Three settings. Nothing else.

Ride mode, max-speed unlock and remote calibration — the same three the original app could change. Unlock and calibration are refused while you’re moving.

Hands off the firmware

No firmware updates, ever. Nothing that could brick your Drive.

No account. No ads. No tracking.

Your ride data stays on your phone. You decide if you email a recording. Privacy policy

Why I built it

A board too good to die.

I ride a Mellow Drive in Brussels. The official app stopped being maintained and the servers it relied on went offline. My board still rode beautifully. I just couldn’t trust what it told me anymore.

So I decoded how the board talks over Bluetooth and built a new app from scratch: one that tells the truth about your battery, learns your range, plans your rides and never touches anything it shouldn’t.

OpenMellow is free and independent. It gets better every week thanks to the riders who test it and send their ride logs. If you still ride a Mellow, this is for you.

— Thomas, Brussels

Beta

Ride it before everyone else.

Two minutes to install. Updates arrive by themselves.

iPhone & Apple Watch

iOS 16 or later · watchOS 10 or later

  1. Install TestFlight, Apple’s free beta app.
  2. Open the invitation on your iPhone, tap Accept, then Install.
  3. Allow Bluetooth, switch on your Drive and your remote. It connects by itself.
Get OpenMellow on TestFlight

No board at hand? Open the app and tap “Try without a Drive (demo)”.

Help it get better: tap “Record this ride or charge”, ride as usual, then “Stop and email my logs”. It sends your board’s data only — no location.

Safety first: try mode changes and the speed unlock with the board lifted, wheels in the air.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Something else? thomas@pixelshake.be

Is OpenMellow official?

No. It’s an independent project made by a Mellow rider. It isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Mellow Boards.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. No subscription, no account, no ads.

Which boards does it work with?

The Mellow Drive. If you ride a Drive S, join the beta and send a recording: we’re still learning how it differs.

Can it unlock my top speed?

Like the original app, it can send the “unlock full speed” setting when your Drive’s firmware supports it. Try it with the wheels in the air first, and follow the rules where you ride.

Is it safe for my board?

It only changes the three settings the original app could change, refuses the unlock and remote calibration while you’re moving, and never updates the firmware.

My battery was rebuilt with bigger cells.

Set the new capacity in Battery check. OpenMellow then shows the % and the range for your whole pack, even if the board’s electronics still count the old capacity.

Does it keep working with my phone in my pocket?

On iPhone, yes: lock it and ride, the connection and your Apple Watch keep going. On Android, keep OpenMellow open (locking the screen is fine).

What data leaves my phone?

Nothing, unless you plan a route (the map service receives the address you search) or choose to email a recording. Read the privacy policy.

Keep riding.

Join the beta in two minutes. Your board will thank you.
